The Erie Downtown Partnership and Erie Arts and Culture have teamed up to produce two live streamed concerts featuring local Muslim artists to kick off the month of Ramadan. The first video, featuring Mustafa Al Balkhi on oud, Nibal Ab El Karim on vocals, and Belal Al Denah on doumbek, will be available on the organizations’ Facebook and YouTube channels starting at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, April 13th. The next video, due to live stream on Tuesday, April 20th at 6:00 PM, will feature Bosnian vocalist Mensura Berberovic. These videos were made possible by a grant from the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Art and were filmed by the team at R. Frank Media with audio by Grise Audio Visual. Ramadan, the ninth month of the Muslim calendar observed by fasting and reflection, started on Monday, April 12th at sundown and will end on Wednesday, May 12th.
